Loss Boxes

Care Packages for Grieving Mothers

The idea for our loss boxes came from a friend who sent me a care package
after my miscarriage. She had experienced a previous stillbirth, and the items that she chose to include were a balm to my soul in the midst of my profound grief. Over the past two years, I have made care packages for other women experiencing miscarriage, and Heard and Held grew from there.

There is a tendency after pregnancy loss to be frustrated with one’s body. We are born with the ability to bear children. Why is it that some people who don’t even want children are able to have healthy babies, but ours died before we could even hold them? We begin to wonder if our bodies are somehow defective. There is a temptation to be angry with ourselves and to push ourselves to do better. Some women throw themselves into healthy eating and exercise. Others turn to food for comfort and begin to overeat. We may feel shame related to our loss, and we
may feel that our bodies do not deserve to be treated with care.

That’s where these boxes come in.

Each Loss Box Includes: *

Handmade Body Care Products

Each box includes body scrub made by hand with high-quality, natural ingredients (organic where possible). Each product is scented naturally with essential oils and the natural scent of the ingredients used. All essential oils used are understood to be safe for use in children, pregnancy, and breastfeeding.*

Face Mask

A soothing, EWG-verified sheet mask to hydrate and sooth the skin.*

Chocolate

We use high-quality, fair-trade, sustainably-sourced, organic chocolate bars.

Shower Steamers

Due to the physical effects of pregnancy and infant loss, mothers may not be able to bathe for several weeks following their delivery or procedure. Instead of bath bombs, we make our own shower steamers with essential oils. This way, mothers can enjoy a relaxing shower with aromatherapy while they are healing.*

Candle

We only purchase high-quality candles made from simple, natural ingredients. We use two different candle companies: Fontana Candle Company and Milkglass Market.

Tear Jar

Tear jars date back to ancient times and are referenced by David in Psalm 56:8, which says “You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book” (NLT). It is our hope that these tear jars remind you that God hears your sorrow and remembers your pain for all of time.

Socks

Who doesn’t love a good pair of cozy socks? We recommend using the body scrub and applying the lotion bar to your feet before putting on these socks for a truly luxurious experience.

Handwritten Card

We include a handwritten note in each box. If you have shared your story and/or your child’s name with us, we will personalize the card to your specific situation. We can also include an optional note to fathers.

Handmade Bracelet

Devotional

A bead bracelet handmade by a friend of the ministry.

Each box includes a devotional booklet that walks through the pain of losing a baby and gently points to the hope found in Scripture, and includes space for personal journaling and reflection.
